1 І був Божий ковче́г у филисти́мській землі сім місяців.

2 І покликали филисти́мляни жерці́в та ворожби́тів, говорячи: „Що́ робити з Господнім ковчегом? Скажіть нам, як відіслати його на його місце? “

3 А ті сказали: „Якщо ви відсилаєте ковчега Ізраїлевого Бога, то не відсилайте його по́рожньо, але конче принесіть Йому жертву за провину, — тоді будете ви́лікувані, і ви пізнаєте, чому́ не відступає Його рука від вас“.

4 І ті спитали: „Яка ж та жертва за провину, що ми принесемо́ Йому?“ А ті відказали: „За числом филисти́мських воло́дарів — п'ять золотих боля́чок та п'ять золотих мишей. Бо одна пора́за для всіх вас та для ваших володарів.

5 І зробі́ть подоби ваших боля́чок та подоби ваших мише́й, що вигу́блюють землю, і воздайте славу Ізраїлевому Богові, — може Він поле́гчить Свою руку з-над вас і з-над ваших богів та з-над вашого кра́ю.

6 І чого́ ви будете робити запеклими свої серця́, як робили запеклим серце своє Єгипет та фарао́н? Чи ж не тоді, як Він чинив дивні речі з ними, не відпустили їх, і вони пішли?

7 А тепер візьміть, і зробіть одно́го ново́го воза, і візьміть дві дійні́ коро́ві, що на них не накладалося ярма́, і запряжіть ті корови до воза, а їхні телята відведете від них додому.

8 І ві́зьмете Господнього ковче́га, та й поставите його на воза, а золоті речі, що ви принесе́те Йому жертвою за провину, покладете в скри́ні збо́ку її. І відпустите його, і він пі́де.

9 І побачите: Якщо він увійде до Бет-Шемешу дорогою до своєї границі, — він зробив нам це велике зло. А якщо ні, то пізнаємо, що не його рука доторкнулася нас, — випа́док то був нам“.

10 І зробили ті люди так. І взяли́ вони дві дійні́ коро́ві, і запрягли́ їх до воза, а їхніх телят замкнули вдома.

11 І поставили вони Господнього ковчега на воза, і скри́ню, і золоті миші, і подоби їхніх боля́чок.

12 І коро́ви пішли просто дорогою до Бет-Шемешу. Ішли вони однією би́тою дорогою та все ревли́, і не відхиля́лися ні право́руч, ні ліво́руч. А филисти́мські володарі йшли за ними аж до границі Бет-Шемешу.

13 А люди Бет-Шемешу жали пшеницю в долині. І звели́ вони очі свої та й побачили ковчега, — і зраділи, що побачили!

14 А віз увійшов на поле бет-шемеша́нина Ісуса, та й став там, а там був великий камінь. І вони накололи дров із воза, а корів прине́сли цілопа́ленням для Господа.

15 А Левити зняли Господнього ковчега та скриню, що була́ з ним, що в нім були золоті речі, та й поставили при великому ка́мені. А люди Бет-Шемешу прине́сли цілопа́лення, і прино́сили того дня жертви для Господа.

16 А п'ять филистимських володарів бачили це, і вернулися того дня до Екрону.

17 А оце ті золоті болячки, що филистимляни звернули Господе́ві жертвою за провину: одна за Ашдо́д, одна за Га́зу, одна за Ашкело́н, одна за Ґат, одна за Екро́н.

18 А золоті миші були́ за числом усіх филистимських міст п'ятьох володарів, від міста тверди́нного й аж до безмурного села́, і аж до великого ка́меня, що на ньому поставили Господнього ковчега, і він знахо́диться аж до цього дня на полі бет-шемешанина Ісуса.

19 І вдарив Господь людей Бет-Шемешу, бо вони заглядали в Господній ковчег. І вибив Він між наро́дом п'ятдеся́т тисяч чоловіка та сімдеся́т чоловіка. І був народ у жало́бі, бо Господь ударив народ великою пора́зкою.

20 І сказали люди Бет-Шемешу: „Хто зможе стати перед лицем Господа, Того Бога Святого? І до кого Він пі́де від нас?“

21 І вони послали послів до мешканців Кір'ят-Єаріму, говорячи: „Филисти́мляни вернули Господнього ковчега. Зійдіть, знесіть його до се́бе“.

1 Samuel

Chapter 6

1 AND the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the lords, saying, What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us by what means shall we send it to its place.

3 And they said, If you send away the ark of the LORD God of Israel, do not send it away empty; but you must surely bring trespass offerings to it; then you shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

4 And they said, What sort of offerings shall we bring to it? They answered, Five golden boils and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was upon you all and upon your lords.

5 Wherefore you shall make likenesses of your boils and images of the mice that are destroying the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel; perhaps he will remove his hand from you and from your god and from your land.

6 And you shall not harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts, and as they mocked the Israelites and did not send them nor let them go.

7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch cows upon which there has come no yoke, and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;

8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the vessels of gold which you have brought for it as offerings, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go on its way.

9 And watch, for if it goes up by the way of the border which goes up to Beth-shemesh, then it is the LORD who has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that afflicted us, but it has happened to us by chance.

10 And the men did so; and took two milch cows and tied them to the cart and shut up their calves at home;

11 And they laid the ark of God upon the cart, and the box with the mice of gold and the images of their boils.

12 And they sent out the cows by the way which is by the border of Beth-shemesh, and they went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand nor to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.

13 And the men of the town of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced when they saw it.

14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemeshite, and stopped where there was a great stone; and they split the wood of the cart, and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the LORD.

15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the box that was with it in which were the vessels of gold, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrifices on that day to the LORD.

16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.

17 And these are the golden boils which the Philistines had brought as offerings to God: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

18 And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines, belonging to the five lords, both of the five fortified cities and of the country villages of the Perrizites, and as far as the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD, which to this day is in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemeshite.

19 And the LORD smote the men of Beth-shemesh because they worshipped the ark of the LORD, and the LORD smote five thousand and seventy men of the people; and the people mourned because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? And who shall carry up from us the ark?

21 So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Koriath-narin, saying, The Philistines have brought back the ark of the LORD; come down and take it up to you.

1 AND the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

2 І покликали филисти́мляни жерці́в та ворожби́тів, говорячи: „Що́ робити з Господнім ковчегом? Скажіть нам, як відіслати його на його місце? “

2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the lords, saying, What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us by what means shall we send it to its place.

3 А ті сказали: „Якщо ви відсилаєте ковчега Ізраїлевого Бога, то не відсилайте його по́рожньо, але конче принесіть Йому жертву за провину, — тоді будете ви́лікувані, і ви пізнаєте, чому́ не відступає Його рука від вас“.

3 And they said, If you send away the ark of the LORD God of Israel, do not send it away empty; but you must surely bring trespass offerings to it; then you shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

4 І ті спитали: „Яка ж та жертва за провину, що ми принесемо́ Йому?“ А ті відказали: „За числом филисти́мських воло́дарів — п'ять золотих боля́чок та п'ять золотих мишей. Бо одна пора́за для всіх вас та для ваших володарів.

4 And they said, What sort of offerings shall we bring to it? They answered, Five golden boils and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was upon you all and upon your lords.

5 І зробі́ть подоби ваших боля́чок та подоби ваших мише́й, що вигу́блюють землю, і воздайте славу Ізраїлевому Богові, — може Він поле́гчить Свою руку з-над вас і з-над ваших богів та з-над вашого кра́ю.

5 Wherefore you shall make likenesses of your boils and images of the mice that are destroying the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel; perhaps he will remove his hand from you and from your god and from your land.

6 І чого́ ви будете робити запеклими свої серця́, як робили запеклим серце своє Єгипет та фарао́н? Чи ж не тоді, як Він чинив дивні речі з ними, не відпустили їх, і вони пішли?

6 And you shall not harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts, and as they mocked the Israelites and did not send them nor let them go.

7 А тепер візьміть, і зробіть одно́го ново́го воза, і візьміть дві дійні́ коро́ві, що на них не накладалося ярма́, і запряжіть ті корови до воза, а їхні телята відведете від них додому.

7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch cows upon which there has come no yoke, and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;

8 І ві́зьмете Господнього ковче́га, та й поставите його на воза, а золоті речі, що ви принесе́те Йому жертвою за провину, покладете в скри́ні збо́ку її. І відпустите його, і він пі́де.

8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the vessels of gold which you have brought for it as offerings, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go on its way.

9 І побачите: Якщо він увійде до Бет-Шемешу дорогою до своєї границі, — він зробив нам це велике зло. А якщо ні, то пізнаємо, що не його рука доторкнулася нас, — випа́док то був нам“.

9 And watch, for if it goes up by the way of the border which goes up to Beth-shemesh, then it is the LORD who has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that afflicted us, but it has happened to us by chance.

10 І зробили ті люди так. І взяли́ вони дві дійні́ коро́ві, і запрягли́ їх до воза, а їхніх телят замкнули вдома.

10 And the men did so; and took two milch cows and tied them to the cart and shut up their calves at home;

11 І поставили вони Господнього ковчега на воза, і скри́ню, і золоті миші, і подоби їхніх боля́чок.

11 And they laid the ark of God upon the cart, and the box with the mice of gold and the images of their boils.

12 І коро́ви пішли просто дорогою до Бет-Шемешу. Ішли вони однією би́тою дорогою та все ревли́, і не відхиля́лися ні право́руч, ні ліво́руч. А филисти́мські володарі йшли за ними аж до границі Бет-Шемешу.

12 And they sent out the cows by the way which is by the border of Beth-shemesh, and they went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand nor to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.

13 А люди Бет-Шемешу жали пшеницю в долині. І звели́ вони очі свої та й побачили ковчега, — і зраділи, що побачили!

13 And the men of the town of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced when they saw it.

14 А віз увійшов на поле бет-шемеша́нина Ісуса, та й став там, а там був великий камінь. І вони накололи дров із воза, а корів прине́сли цілопа́ленням для Господа.

14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemeshite, and stopped where there was a great stone; and they split the wood of the cart, and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the LORD.

15 А Левити зняли Господнього ковчега та скриню, що була́ з ним, що в нім були золоті речі, та й поставили при великому ка́мені. А люди Бет-Шемешу прине́сли цілопа́лення, і прино́сили того дня жертви для Господа.

15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the box that was with it in which were the vessels of gold, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrifices on that day to the LORD.

16 А п'ять филистимських володарів бачили це, і вернулися того дня до Екрону.

16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.

17 А оце ті золоті болячки, що филистимляни звернули Господе́ві жертвою за провину: одна за Ашдо́д, одна за Га́зу, одна за Ашкело́н, одна за Ґат, одна за Екро́н.

17 And these are the golden boils which the Philistines had brought as offerings to God: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

18 А золоті миші були́ за числом усіх филистимських міст п'ятьох володарів, від міста тверди́нного й аж до безмурного села́, і аж до великого ка́меня, що на ньому поставили Господнього ковчега, і він знахо́диться аж до цього дня на полі бет-шемешанина Ісуса.

18 And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines, belonging to the five lords, both of the five fortified cities and of the country villages of the Perrizites, and as far as the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD, which to this day is in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemeshite.

19 І вдарив Господь людей Бет-Шемешу, бо вони заглядали в Господній ковчег. І вибив Він між наро́дом п'ятдеся́т тисяч чоловіка та сімдеся́т чоловіка. І був народ у жало́бі, бо Господь ударив народ великою пора́зкою.

19 And the LORD smote the men of Beth-shemesh because they worshipped the ark of the LORD, and the LORD smote five thousand and seventy men of the people; and the people mourned because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

20 І сказали люди Бет-Шемешу: „Хто зможе стати перед лицем Господа, Того Бога Святого? І до кого Він пі́де від нас?“

20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? And who shall carry up from us the ark?

21 І вони послали послів до мешканців Кір'ят-Єаріму, говорячи: „Филисти́мляни вернули Господнього ковчега. Зійдіть, знесіть його до се́бе“.
